We move the world with reusable solutions

Our roots are in reusable systems

As a manufacturer of reusable solutions, the concept of sustainability is deeply rooted in our corporate culture. We began manufacturing our first reusable transport solutions as far back as 1985. With our reusable packaging, we have ever since focused on solutions that are designed for repeated use and can support the circular economy.

Our reusable solutions can help to reduce packaging waste and the need for new packaging. This is because, unlike single-use packaging, they are designed for repeated and long-term use. By reusing them, fewer new packaging items are required, thereby helping to prevent packaging waste.

But for us, this is just the first step. At a time of dwindling resources and environmental challenges, sustainability is an issue that affects us all. We are aware that our planet’s resources are limited and see it as our responsibility to use them as efficiently as possible.

With our solutions, we want to break new ground, together with you. Our aim is to continuously develop reusable transport packaging and material cycles, whilst paying closer attention to the use of resources. We are fully committed to this!

Our sustainability strategy

We see sustainability as a holistic principle that includes more than just ecological aspects. As a family business, we are aware of our social responsibility towards our employees and society. We are committed to the concept of reusable products and are investing in the long-term and responsible development of our company.

Social, ecological and economic aspects are equally important to us as a family business. That is why our sustainability strategy is based on the three-pillar model.

Ecological
sustainability

Economic
sustainability

Social
sustainability

Our goal is to use by 2030 only energy from renewable sources. We already produce part of our energy with our own photovoltaic systems. By using solar energy, we are making a sustainable contribution to reducing our carbon footprint and reducing our dependence on conventional energy sources.

Reduction instead of compensation - that is the theme we follow in order to minimize our ecological footprint in the long term. The specialists in our energy team identify potential savings, implement actions to improve our energy efficiency and upgrade renewable energies.

  • Continuous investment in state-of-the-art machinery and plant technology
  • Use of energy-efficient injection molding machines
  • Heat recovery from production to heat and air-condition the administration building
  • Establishment of peak load management
  • Replacement of the compressed air infrastructure with regulated compressors
  • Conversion to LED lighting

Within the framework of circular economy, our reusable transport solutions are not simply disposed of at the end of their life cycle, but returned to the production cycle. This reduces the need for disposable packaging and conserves resources. With a sustainable circular economy, we are helping to reduce the impact on our environment.

Circular economy - a sustainable concept

The advantages of reusable packaging are obvious. Multiple use preserves valuable resources and saves costs. Plastic containers are very durable, but even the best quality plastic container will eventually become disused. However, its use does not necessarily have to end with its life cycle: Recycling is the solution!

Old or destroyed plastic containers are separated by type, shredded, ground and reprocessed in a compounder for further processing. In terms of quality and material properties, the regranulate obtained in this way is in no way inferior to comparable virgin material.

For the production of food containers from recycled material, we only use certified material that meets the strict legal quality guidelines. The regrind used comes from closed pools of food-safe containers and can therefore be used to produce new food containers. If you would like to have your old containers recycled, we look forward to hearing from you!

BQC - the resource-saving alternative!

With the bekuplast Quality Compound (BQC), our environmentally friendly reusable transport packaging becomes even more sustainable. BQC is a polypropylene copolymer that consists of at least 50% post-consumer material (PCM). BQC can also contain up to 50% post industrial material (PIM).

With its technical properties, the bekuplast quality compound (BQC) is suitable for storage and transportation applications, even in fully automated processes, and is comparable to completely new plastic. It can be used for all reusable transport packaging that does not come into contact with food.

We’re championing reusable packaging!

With our reusable solutions, we aim to drive the shift away from single-use packaging towards reusable systems. That’s why we’re actively involved in various associations and initiatives focusing on reusable packaging and reusable transport packaging.

Reusable plastic transport packaging versus disposable packaging

Transport packaging plays an important role in protecting delicate products such as fruit and vegetables during transport. Studies carried out by the Fraunhofer Institute show that the use of reusable plastic transport packaging can result in less damage than that caused by disposable cardboard packaging.

Sturdy plastic containers protect fragile goods during transport and are tailored to the specific requirements of each sector. Furthermore, they can be reused over a long period within reuse schemes. They thus enable the repeated use of transport packaging, not only in fresh produce logistics but also in many other sectors.

Awarded the "Blue Angel" label

At bekuplast, we use recycled materials for selected reusable packaging. Our certified Euro containers from the lightline and basicline ranges, made from recycled plastic, have been awarded the recognised "Blue Angel" eco-label.

""

The Blue Angel is a government-run eco-label based on independent testing in accordance with defined award criteria. For products made from recycled plastics, the certification takes into account, amongst other things:

  • a high proportion of recycled plastic
  • limits on harmful substances
  • defined requirements for the materials used.

In this way, the Blue Angel ensures that the verified environmental characteristics of the certified products are transparent and verifiable.
