Outreach Day in Brussels: Focus on sustainability
Reusable transport packaging as the key to the circular economy.

This year's Outreach Day in Brussels focused on sustainability. Nina Zwafink, Sustainability Manager at bekuplast, took part in the exchange as a representative of the RCTP (Roundtable for Reusable Containers, Trays and Pallets). The aim of the event was to inform political decision-makers about the potential of reusable plastic transport packaging (RTP) in relation to the planned Circular Economy Act and to emphasise its role in a functioning circular economy – because reusable plastic transport packaging has already been successfully established for several decades, particularly in the B2B sector. They offer a sustainable, economical and resource-saving alternative to single-use solutions and have become indispensable in many industrial supply chains.
After a brief round of introductions, Nina Zwafink presented the advantages of reusable transport packaging to the political decision-makers. Her central argument: reuse and recycling are not opposites – they complement each other. bekuplast's durable packaging solutions are used for many years and then recycled – a model that complies with the European waste hierarchy, in which reuse clearly takes precedence over recycling.
Another focus of the discussion was the origin and quality of recycled materials. bekuplast pursues a consistent take-back system: used plastic containers are taken back, ground up and processed into new products – a living cycle that conserves resources.
In view of the requirements of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and other legislation, the demand for high-quality recycled material will continue to rise in the future. bekuplast is meeting this challenge with innovative solutions and a clear commitment to sustainability.
The discussion partners were impressed by the diversity of industries that bekuplast supplies and welcomed the open exchange. At the end of the meeting, the company invited the MPs and their teams to visit its headquarters in Ringe to see its sustainable packaging solutions for themselves.
